Hess Egan Hagerty & L'Hommedieu (HESS EGAN) has been a "high end" provider of commercial insurance and surety brokerage services to regional, national and multi-national companies since 1967.  HESS EGAN is unique in the marketplace as a "partnership" of insurance & surety industry executives with an exceptional talent pool and extraordinary resources servicing an enviable list of long-time clients. On February 1, 2006, Hess Egan was acquired by M&T Insurance Agency, Inc., the property and casualty insurance subsidiary of M&T Bank. On January 1, 2007, HESS EGAN merged with and became a division of M&T Insurance Agency.

HESS EGAN's clientele has included recognizable names across many industries, plus lesser-known companies including ENR Top 400 contractors.

HESS EGAN consists of two functional groups servicing a wide range of industries including construction, environmental, real estate, transportation, M&A, manufacturing, retail industries, service industries, non-profits, healthcare, technology, telecommunications, and energy.  Our Insurance Group provides comprehensive commercial insurance and risk management programs.  And our Surety Group provides construction bonds, commercial bonds, environmental bonds, and specialty bonds programs.

Unique challenges over the years have lead to renowned achievements including the coordination of an insurance program for a 500 year old mummy in the Peruvian Andes.  Within 48-hours of its chance discovery,  HESS EGAN secured coverage that allowed the mummy to be safely shipped from South America to a National Geographic exhibition in the United States.  This was subsequently a focus of a national advertising campaign by The Hartford Insurance Company.
